Who we are

Avecom is an innovative SME with more than 25 years of experience in optimizing microbial processes, with a focus on biodegradation and biosynthesis, and the engineering of microbial consortia.

Our experts develop products and processes with applications in (waste)water treatment and reuse, soil remediation, biodegradation and air management. Our fermentation team pioneers in the development of sustainable microbial biomasses to cost-efficiently produce microbial proteins for feed&food, organic fertilizers and biobased polymers. Apart from our own products and platform fermentation processes, Avecom works in close collaboration with industrial companies for the research, development and upscaling of microbial processes.

Avecom has fully-equipped laboratories and FCA-certified production facilities, which allows us to perform R&D starting from preliminary lab testing to proven pilot scale applicability and small scale production of innovative ingredients (up to 2000 liter fermenter capacities). Furthermore, our team of experts is capable to identify bacterial species through molecular analysis.

We are a recognized partner in regional and European Research, Development & Innovation programmes, having received funding for over 15 different EU projects.

Avecom was founded in 1995 by professor Willy Verstraete, as a spin-out of Ghent University (Belgium).
